Five Mantras

It’s Friday! Time to sit back and enjoy the weekend, or redecorate with these five simple small upgrades. Trust me, they are quick easy and a great way to not only bring life back into your home, but also your own personal style favourites. Marni Jameson’s book titled: House of Havoc, outlines five perfect mantras to live by in your home.  I thought I’d share them with you because I believe that with these five simple changes you can fall in love with you home that much more.

One. The closer something is to your body, the better it should be. This argues for fine sheet and cheap drapes. -Marni Jameson

I love this. Why spend so much on something that hangs on the wall, when you can have far better bed sheets that you actually touch for more than five seconds. Treat yourself, sleep is very important in order to have a successful day. Don’t get me wrong, having nice drapes is important however, you can find some great deals out there. So, pay more attention to the things that you actually will use and appreciate. Spoil yourself once in awhile.

Two. Surround yourself with quality, not clutter. Buy it once, buy it right. -Marni Jameson

Don’t get me wrong, I love my accessories, but it does have a limit. Even though you think you need to fill every spot on that shelf, you don’t. Remember less is more, the less you have the more clear view people have to your accessories. Also having less will make your space feel larger and who doesn’t want that?

Three. Every room needs something living; flowers, goldfish, a pet.-Marni Jameson

Bringing life into a room never seems to fail. Like Marni said, anything from a plant to an animal that breathes air will work. Why not mix both an animal and plant together? One Pot, Two Lives may be the greatest thing ever made? This is a planter and a fishtank in one to promote a beautiful example of simbiotic living, how great is that? While the fish’s waste provides nutrients for the plant, the plant filters the water that it is fed to provide clean water for the fish. PURE GENIUS #CanIHaveYou

Four. Honor the acts of daily living. If it’s a habit, make it beautiful. -Marni Jameson

Do you drop down on the couch after a long day at work? Do you spend friday and saturday nights curled up on the couch watching your favourite movies? Or wrap yourself in a blanket on sunday mornings reading the paper? If you even do one of these, this space is important, so treat it that way. Add things into the space you know you will use and love. Make it your space, make it cozy, warm and inviting. You spend the most time here so make it worth it.

Five. Life should sparkle. Every house needs bling. -Marni Jameson

You can never go wrong with a bit of bling. When I say “bling” it does not always mean diamonds and sparkle, metallics, metals and lighting fall into this category also. Lighting can add a lot to a space, even more when it has something to reflect off of. However, make sure that the reflection does not overpower the space as that could destroy the whole look. Have fun and mix it up, mix metals and diamonds together, find the perfect balance for you.

Take all or a few of these tips, just remember to keep your space to fix you and your lifestyle. Love your home.
