The countdown is on, 2015 is almost gone. So, for the next four days I will be counting down the top trends that I think defined 2015. From colour changes to accessory updates, you will wish you incorporated every single one of these ideas into your space this year.

Blue

Royal blue, cobalt blue, any blue you name it!  Vibrant blue was back…

or did it ever leave…. or will it ever leave?  2015 screamed look at me when it came to colour. 2016 seems to be somewhat going to in same direction but more of a natural take on colour. However, I love the bold pop that blue brings to a space, depending on the tone, blue can stand out or showcase another colour. For me, blue will always be my go to colour, it matches practically any colour and always makes the space  calm and welcoming. I am extremely happy that blue was a big hit this year, and I hope to see it a lot in spaces in 2016.

Natural Wood

I am so happy that 2015 showcased the natural wood feeling. I have been asked many times about wood focal walls and cannot wait to be able to do one myself. There’s just something about the way natural wood warms up a room,  I cannot get enough of it. 2015 brought the sustainable feeling into spaces though natural woods and it once again continue through 2016. Wood always seems to bring the outdoors in, even more when the wood it left in its natural state. Wood walls are a great feature in a space but you can also get this look through furniture. Wood dining tables were also a big hit this year,  bringing not only the family together for dinner but also once again bringing that natural look into the space.  I hope to see more of the natural wood tones in spaces in 2016, I really think it brings something unique and custom to your space.

Black + White

If you like the modern look there’s nothing more classic than black and white.  It is so simple but also so chic at the same time. This year many people started painting darker walls, dark blues, purples and a big hit was black. 2015 encouraged people to break out of their comfort zones and try something big, bold and new. Painting one wall in a space a dark colour such as black, really made the space pop. People always think that dark colours make a room feel smaller, however, if you showcase the wall with the right accents you can make your room go from neutral and boring to bold and bright. Just keep in mind that if you go dark on the walls, all accents, furniture and accessories should stay on the lighter side.

Three more days until we say goodbye to 2015 and hello to 2016. So tune in tomorrow to see what made it on my list of favourite design trends of 2015.
